Chas's Acorn File-server

[Acorn Risc PC] Welcome to my proggie page, this contains just a few programs that I have written for the Acorn RISC range of computers. All archives have been compressed using the excelent !SparkFS by David Pilling. PKZIP and !SparkPlug will also be able to decompress each of the zip files. I make no promises about the reliability or usefulness of my programs, but I would appreciate any input you can give me, in order to support them.

[App Icon] MAME PLAY v1.10:

For all those MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) users out there, heres an easy to use front end. [App Icon] File Lower v1.00:

One little problem with both the MAME and MESS engines is that they require game roms to be name in all lower case characters. This little utility will convert file names of any application, directory or file to all lowercase characters.

Mad Cows Disease v1.00:

Not quite an application, but something worth downloading if you've got Impression Style. Basically its a joke Power-point presentation that i've ported. Guaranteed to make your laugh :-). If you'd like a quick preview of the file try the html version.

[App Icon] Boot-Suite V2.30:

Boot-Suite allows hard-disk based machines to provide support for multiple users on the same machine. Each user can have there own desktop boot file and home directory, which is run/setup whenever they login. Each time your machine is closed down and reset, a neat log-on screen appears, allowing a user to identify themselves. A number of protection facilities are provided, including the locking and hiding of all files in the !Boot structure. Access is provided using a user/super-user system so that only the authorized may change your machines setup for ever. Installation and Removal programs are provided, so that boot-suite can be setup of and used with the minimum of fuss. The program is modular allowing you to write extensions to Boot-Suite to suit your own needs.
If you don't think the Suite is something you'll need then maybe you could make use of the individual libraries and applications that are hidden inside. Of which a useful one is the [Wimp] library, which may help users build there own 'Desktop Basic V' applications.

[App Icon] Elite Trader v0.07:

Effective trading for elite commanders in one easy step! Since the guys (& gals) at Acorn User decided to release Elite on one of there cover discs life has not been quite the same. After avoiding the drug of being addicted to Elite on the BBC for many years, my time has come. So here it is, a quick way up the ladder to success, to trading in Elite. Using this simple Wimp application you can log the cost of all items on the many thousands of planets, allowing you to quickly compare trading profits. (roughly)

[App Icon] Battle-Isle v0.19:

A strategy game that just never got finished! You are in charge of a number of military units and it is your job to overthrow the opposition. Using a turn based system you have the chance to defend against and then attack your enemy. With a point and click user interface, you decide what happened next.
During the first year of my degree course myself (Rob) & a friend (Simon) decided that we should code something other than 'Miranda' (a functional programming language at Uni). After many months of on and off coding this collection of bits & bytes is the result. A whole year has now passed with nothing much happening for Battle Isle, and hence its release to the unsuspecting public. Since then the coders have been tempted by Visual Basic, and have been bogged down with coursework. It is our hope that we will once again return and finish !Battle-Isle but.....

[App Icon] Which way Now v3.10:

A mathematically stimulating 2 or 1 player game. You've probably seen this one on a number of other machines but fear not, this is probably the best version yet. The aim of the game is to get the highest score, as always :-). By taking it in turns to choose a number you find yourself darting around the screen, trying to out think your opponent. So what, is there more I here you ask! Well yes, you see you have only half the controls and your opponent has the other half. Work it out if you can...

[App Icon] Zig Zag v1.01:

This is a very sad and basic game with one main control 'up'. Back in the mists of time a silly white pixel was plotted on the screen. Next to it another white pixel, until soon the screen was full of white pixels, making out a wiggly line. The poor wiggly line was then trapped in a large box, with only a small hole at one end. And thus a game was born, 'Zig Zag', a game to really impress those Saturn & Playstation owners. Simply help the wiggly line out of trouble.

[App Icon] Bit & Bobs vDusti:

A collection of binary patterns I found in the loft. Ok, bit of a pick and mix this one. Mainly games, applications and utilities that I spent a bit of time playing with in the early days. None of the items are worth releasing, but here they are just in case. Like the previous file I feel ashamed to let others see them, but there you go. You have to start somewhere and this is where my poor demented existence in programming began.
